Classic Weeknight Marinara

I call this one my simple classic weeknight marinara because it’s a quick and easy homemade sauce. It’s so much better than jarred sauce yet so easy to make that I promise you’ll never go back to jarred sauce ever again!

Ingredients

3  28 oz. cans of crushed tomatoes, 1 yellow onion, 6 cloves of garlic, 3-4 tbsp. of olive oil, pinch of red pepper flakes, 2 tbsp. of parsley, 1 tbsp. of basil, 1 tbsp. of oregano, 1 tsp. of salt, ¼ tsp. of pepper

Dice the onion, crush and chop the garlic.

In a large pot heat up the olive oil on medium-low heat.

Once the oil is warm add the onions, garlic and red pepper flakes. Stir and cook for a few minutes until the onions are translucent.

Add the crushed tomatoes, stir and bring to a boil.

Once the sauce has come to a boil lower the heat and add all the spices. Cook on a medium-low heat for about 1 hour.

Serve

Serve with any of your favorite pasta and pizza dishes.

When cooking the onions and garlic make sure not to cook them too long. If the garlic turns brown it won’t have the same flavor. If you feel the mixture is too dry you can add some extra olive oil.

Sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator or even in the freezer.
